A) Personal Characteristics
I feel I am hardworking and reliable, whenever I commit myself to a project whether it be independent or part of a team I take pride in finishing it and will see it through.
B) Skills
I have picked up a lot of skills when it comes to using the adobe suite programs which is very beneficial as it helps prepare me for future work and employment as I can see myself using these programs throughout my career. These skills I have learnt for these programs will also be transferable and help me when learning any new programs. Most notable I have become comfortable using Adobe illustrator, learning to create shapes, characters and scenes for web design, character design and animation. I have also used a lot of Adobe Premiere Pro, creating trailers and special effects, Adobe Indesign for designing a magazine, Adobe Audition for creating a radio documentary, Adobe Photoshop for posters and drawing and Adobe After effects practising more special effects.
I love finding ways to solve problems I encounter on projects and feel I am determined to see things through once I start a task.
I feel I have a rich understanding of how all of these programs work and how they can work together effectively.
C) Relevant achievements
During my 120 credit Media Film/TV course I have tried creating animation, radio documentaries, trailers, special effects, magazines, posters and short film documentaries which have all given me vital knowledge and understanding of the development process required to complete such projects. I found it fascinating tackling each of these projects and want to develop my skills in filmmaking further into a career. My current ambition is to become a film director, although I want to gain experience working on a film set to discover and learn what it takes to do all of the roles on set as this may lead me to seek a different role in the film industry.
D) Experience, hobbies and interests
I want to be a filmmaker as I enjoy the filmmaking process, working with a group of people on a project from start until finish and having a product at the end which you can show to a group of people to create story and emotion is something I would love to do and become good at.
I am looking at courses that not only teach me the skills of filmmaking but also give me practical experience working on a production which I believe is vital.
My A level ICT course has taught me a great deal of the way systems and computers work. This has helped make me a far more capable and well rounded person when it comes to the way I tackle problems and used computers.
I have always had an interest in the way things work and I like to look into all the little pieces that come together to make it function, whether it be a film set will lots of different people all with their part to play in the success of a production or the combination of sound, graphics and gameplay to make a game a game great. I like to think I look deeper into things then what is shown on the surface.
In my time in college I have done a range of independent and group based projects. I have lead a team as a director when filming a trailer which gave me an understanding of what it's like to manage people and time on a production. I worked in a group to produce a video game which taking more of a managerial role to ensure all tasks were done. When creating an animation I worked with another person which involved a lot of communication, sharing of work and planning to ensure we would complete the product in the time given.
To complete these projects I have had to use a range of techniques such as storyboarding, risk assessments and editing for the trailer and creating lots of graphics for animation.
Personal Resources:
I have full access to the adobe creative cloud suite so I am learning my way around industry standard software. I have a Canon camera.
School - study media film and college - Do a film degree at university
Weaknesses / Areas to improve
Weaknesses / Areas to improve
While I have worked on a range of projects I have made very few narrative films which the area I am most interested in, I plan to make some narrative films over the summer so that I can practise writing a story and script before university. I would also like to improve my confidence with using cameras and try to understand how to fully operate them to suit the needs of the shot. I aim to gain experiences across many of the production roles for film making in my time at university as I have only directed or worked as the cinematographer for my projects so far and want to gain experience and knowledge first hand for all the other roles as I fell this will give me a better understanding of how important and difficult each role is which will make be a better member of a production.
